I love making up languages, but alphabets are hard! Here's my latest attempt (there is also a cursive and shorthand version, but I ran out of space). I'm probably going to go through a few of these before I choose one; this one seems to complicated for everyday use, so I'll probably trash it. (Bonus points to the person who can tell me what my name is!)

Ha ha ha, I remember you telling me you liked creating up your own language. My gosh, it looks complicated. How long have you been working on this one?

Kiish was the second language I made up. I didn't know a lot about grammar and other characteristics of languages at that point (I was twelve) and after a year of working on it I realized that what I had created was totally impracticle for daily use and not a functional language. I didn't want to scrap it, so I kept it as "Old Kiish", an ancient language found in ruins and used as a holy language by the Kukaiaseht (a religious extremist group that has grown into a powerful political entity).

Nine years later, I am working on a "modern" Kiish which is based on the older version in the same way that modern English is based on ancient German. There are more sounds in the current Kiish because it is a trade language spoken in three of the four major countries (Skalza, Touthan, and Miena) and pronunciations of some words vary quite a bit depending on the region.

Er, sorry this turned into a huge academic lecture or something! I have spent so much time working on the world the stories take place in that the stories themselves are almost incidental. I tend to get very enthusiastic talking about it!

This is so interesting, wow so you've spent a very long time working on this 'Kiish' language. That's incredible. Nine years! Have you worked out a speech for it yet? Have you created your own accent?

Kiish sounds like a cross between an African language and German. The area most of my stories revolve around is Okaryda, a small border town centered around an inn which has become a meeting place for all sorts of strange people. Okaryda has its own language, Sauns, which sounds similar to French but also has its roots in Old Kiish. So, people who live there sound like they're speaking African/German with a French accent. :)

I have the basic grammar worked out and a 20 page dictionary, but I haven't spent all that time just on this one language. I have created probably close to thirty languages, most of which got scrapped. However, even though I didn't use them I still learned a great deal about languages through the process of making them, which has helped me in making Kiish.

Wow, that's so in-depth. That sounds like an awesome language to be able to speak.
